WHAT: Africa Trade Development Center and Ankara Miami, Inc. presented AfrICANDO
2013: Textiles of Africa. The runway show took place during the 15th Annual
AfrICANDO U.S. – Africa Trade & Investment Symposium/Expo (Oct. 2-4). AfrICANDO
2013: Textiles of Africa, focused on promoting bilateral trade and investment
opportunities between Africa and the Americas. The symposium included a trade fair
and fashion show, both of which were specifically designed to showcase apparel and
products to buyers, distributors and consumers in The Americas. Africa Trade
Development Center and Ankara Miami, Inc. partnered on this journey of creating
buyer/investor relationships, providing platforms for media access, and
highlighting talent and progression within the African Diaspora.
WHO: Hosted by: Comedian Marcellus “Chello” Davis (of BET & Blue Magic Open Mic
Night); Featured designers: apparel – Jama Clothing (Ft. Laud/Sierra
Leone), Patience Torwolei (Lagos/Nigeria), Wamuiru Couture (Miami/United States),
Yhaniqua Lopes (Miami/Angola), accessories – Sankofa’s Child, and Unapologetic
Presence; Also featuring: music by Deejay Baboo and a spoken word performance by
Nzingah Oniwosan.

WHY: AfrICANDO 2013 focused on the following sectors: textile and apparel;
cultural products, including handicrafts, ethnic foods and spices; cut flowers and
other perishables; and wines.
ATDC’s primary mission is to provide trade development services to manufacturers,
and importers and exporters of goods and services from Africa and the Americas.
Ankara Miami, Inc. is devoted to using its platform to raise cultural awareness
and impact the South Florida community and abroad through cultural and performing
arts.
